Cork Fabric

Cork is a natural product derived from the bark of the Oak Cork Tree. These trees are mostly found in Portugal and Spain, but also northern Africa. The cork is harvested periodically and the tree is left to regenerate cork for the next 9 to 12 years until its next harvest time. A single cork tree can live up to 200 years and can be harvested about 16 times.

The trees are not cut down or harmed in any way.

During the regeneration process, the trees absorb millions of tons of CO2 gas, which helps combat global warming.

That's nature at work for you!

To make the fabric, the cork is sliced thin, and backed with a cotton tricot to make the cork flexible like leather. So much so that many people call it "cork leather" or "vegan leather".

Cork Fabric can be left natural or dyed, or stamped with a print design. The world of cork fabric is vast and varied, just like linen and cotton fabrics. Check out the colors on these cork purses.

But wait! It gets better!

Treated cork fabric has the following inherent qualities:

  • Stain Resistant
  • Water Resistant
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Antimicrobial
