Journey to Nebula - SeaSide Pattern

I'm so excited to join Jaybird Quilt's sew along Journey to Nebula. It is a series of small projects designed to teach you how to use Jaybird's rulers, the Side Kick or Super Side Kick  and the  Hex-n-More. This is important if you signed up for the Nebula BOM starting in January 2021. Which I did. Because, who can pass up the opportunity to make a Tula Pink quilt with her latest fabric lines!? Not me.

I love learning new skills and Jaybird patterns are comprised of blocks that are not square. So this is definately something I've been wanting to try. So much so that I had already bought two of her quilt patterns a few years ago. I had not had the opportunity to try them yet.. but this is my chance to play with the rulers.

I've been following the sew along on instagram and Jaybrid Quilts suggested we use our stash for the Journey since this is a learning prep course.

Keeping this in mind, I've chosen to use my scrap stash as well.

The first project is a pattern called SeaSide. Click here for all the info on the pattern.

I've decided to make this into 2 placemats instead of a table runner and Im going with a patriotic theme.

Diamonds cut for Sea side pattern

For this pattern, I used the Side Kick Ruler. The pattern is very clearly written and I had no problems following instructions to cut the diamonds as needed.

The next two weeks is dedicated to cutting, piecing, and assembling the placemats. I'll keep you posted on the finished product.

The Journey starts now!
